Boosting the Team

Since July we’ve taken on six new starters, working across our business. We believe that our people are our main asset, so we invest heavily in training. When a consultant joins Austin Fraser we enrol them on a 12-week induction programme, which covers the basic elements within the recruitment cycle.

Our induction programme is designed to enable new starters to become confident and competent recruiters. They begin with a 12-day formal induction programme, comprising office orientation, the recruitment industry and cycle, systems training and candidate and client familiarisation, which includes exercises, role-play and live sessions.

After this initial 12-day induction, the new starter is ‘buddied’ with an experienced team member. Their line manager, in consultation with the training manager, will then schedule the remaining key areas of the 12-week programme to reflect the new employee’s market/sector influences; as well as provide training around effective questioning, commitment, objection handling and writing for advertising.

Having successfully completed the 12-week induction programme, each consultant is given a personal development plan to enhance their individual skills. We track and measure this through a monthly business review. We then allocate any further development needed to the most relevant person within the organisation.

New recruit Adam Dowd commented, "I joined Austin Fraser because I wanted to be my own boss. In my previous role as an estate agent, rewards were based on team commission rather than individual performance. And now I really have an opportunity to shine.

“Austin Fraser has a great working environment - everyone gets on and has been really supportive since I started.

“When I first joined, there was a learning curve, but mechanical design engineering is such an interesting sector that I've picked things up quickly. I secured an important deal early on, which I'm really proud of. And despite being here for just three months, I've already made a number of contacts and built up a good rapport with our clients' management teams."
